Partner is a bidirectional Macintosh to NFS and NFS to Macintoshinteroperability gateway. With Partner, every networked Macintosh harddisk can appear as an NFS volume through OPEN LOOK, SunView, or Commandline interfaces. Macintosh files on the networked Macintosh can bedirectly opened by workstation applications without copying over thefiles. A chooser-like interface makes it possible to mount the Macintoshhard disk without any UNIX knowledge whatsoever; point-and-click andplug-and-play paradigms are fully implemented. Partner also provides forcomplete AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) file service for Macintoshcomputers, so the Macintosh simply uses its standard AppleShare clientsoftware to connect to the workstation's file system.Partner also provides a Macintosh interface to system administration andUNIX accounting, which allows complete administration of the workstationor server through pull-down menus and drag-and-drop from either theMacintosh or from an OPEN LOOK interface on the workstation. Partneralso supports an optional spooler, which interfaces with NeWSprint andprints bidirectionally from the Macintosh and the workstation.
